TECAR / CRET  Therapy

What Is TECAR / CRET Therapy?

TECAR (Transfer of Capacitive and Resistive Energy) or CRET (Capacitive-Resistive Electric Transfer) is a non-invasive electromedical treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to generate deep internal heat within the body. Unlike a heating pad that only warms the skin, TECAR therapy works from the "inside out" by stimulating the natural ions in your tissues.

At Ang Physiotherapy, we use this "Deep Thermy" technology to reach structures that are otherwise inaccessible, such as deep-seated ligaments, joint capsules, and thick muscle groups. It is widely considered the "Gold Standard" in elite sports medicine for its ability to dramatically speed up recovery times.

How Does It Work?

TECAR therapy operates at a specific radio frequency (usually around $448 kHz$). It works through three distinct biological effects based on the intensity used:

  1. Biostimulation (Low Power): Activates the cell's internal metabolism without producing heat. This is perfect for fresh injuries and reducing early-stage swelling.

  2. Vascularization (Medium Power): Increases deep blood flow and oxygenation. It flushes out metabolic waste and "recharges" tired or strained muscles.

  3. Hyperactivation (High Power): Produces deep internal heat. This softens stubborn scar tissue, breaks down internal adhesions, and increases the elasticity of stiff joints.

What Are The Treatment Techniques?

The therapist uses two different modes depending on the type of tissue being treated:

  • Capacitive Mode (CAP): Targets tissues with high water content, such as muscles and the lymphatic system. It is excellent for treating muscle tears and large-scale swelling.

  • Resistive Mode (RES): Targets "high-resistance" tissues with less water, such as bones, tendons, ligaments, and thick scars. This is the key to treating chronic joint pain and old injuries.

  • Manual Integration: A unique feature of TECAR is that the therapist can perform manual massage or stretching while the energy is flowing through their hands into your body, combining the benefits of touch and technology.

What Are The Benefits?

  • Immediate Pain Relief: Significant reduction in pain levels after the first session.

  • Rapid Recovery: Shortens the healing time for sports injuries like sprains and strains by up to 50%.

  • Deep Tissue Softening: Effectively "melts" away chronic stiffness in the neck, back, and shoulders.

  • Powerful Drainage: Highly effective at moving stubborn fluid in cases of lymphedema or post-surgical swelling.

  • Increased Range of Motion: Helps you move further and smoother by lubricating the joints from the inside.

Common Conditions Treated

  • Spine Disorders: Cervical pain (neck), lower back pain, and herniated discs.

  • Joint Pathologies: Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and shoulder.

  • Sports Trauma: Muscle tears, ligament sprains (ACL/MCL), and meniscus injuries.

  • Tendon Problems: Achilles tendonitis, Tennis Elbow, and Rotator Cuff issues.

  • Post-Surgical Rehab: Speeding up the healing of internal tissues after orthopedic operations.

  • Pelvic Health: Specialized protocols for pelvic floor rehabilitation.

How Does The Patient Feel?

  • The Experience: It is one of the most pleasant treatments in physiotherapy. It feels like a very deep, soothing, and relaxing warmth that spreads through the limb or joint.

  • The Sensation: Unlike other electrotherapies, there is no "stinging" or "shaking." It feels like a high-end medical massage combined with deep heat.

  • Afterward: You will likely feel a sense of "unlocked" movement and deep relaxation. Most patients report feeling "warm on the inside" for several hours after the session.

The Advanced Plan at Ang Physiotherapy

We maximize the impact of TECAR by using it as a "pre-cursor" to other therapies:

  1. The Warming Phase: We use TECAR to soften a stiff joint before performing Robotic Decompression or manual mobilization.

  2. Advance Combination: Pairing TECAR with Laser Therapy for a massive boost in cellular repair.

  3. Samarth Batch Integration: Because TECAR reduces pain so effectively, it allows you to start your strengthening exercises much sooner and with more power.

  4. K-Taping: Applied after the session to maintain the increased circulation and support the treated area.

Contraindications & Precautions

TECAR is very safe, but we strictly avoid it in these cases:

  • Pacemakers: Or any other electronic implants.

  • Pregnancy: It is not used during pregnancy.

  • Active Cancer: Or malignant tumors in the treatment area.

  • Infections: Acute infections or high fevers.

  • Blood Clots: Known history of DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis).

  • Paresthesia: If you have a total loss of heat sensation (though we can still use "Athermal" mode).
